Overview
Google Ads is a highly complex product for advertisers. Corporations mostly use it and hire specialists who understand it inside out. Google Ads has not yet catered to the needs of Local Businesses such as barbershops or cafes, and they find advertising their businesses exceptionally difficult when navigating the product. I focused on ways to make the product accessible to small businesses and to show them the benefit of using Google Ads.

The Challenge
Research revealed that setting up a business with Google Ads was overwhelming—lengthy, unclear, and lacking context. I was to restructure the IA, replacing the one-size-fits-all approach with progressive disclosure to guide users based on their business type.
The Solution
Collaborating with UX writing, I clarified step labels and explanations. I also iterated on visual indicators for task progress and refined messaging to set realistic expectations, as the process could take weeks, not minutes. I explored AI integration to help small businesses launch Google Ads campaigns quickly. Instead of a full redesign, I added AI buttons at key points to provide instant campaign recommendations with costs and expected returns, enabling fast setup while allowing further exploration.
The Result
A previously untapped market is expected to bring in $100M by EOY 2025. I also recommended other ways to improve the product for local advertisers.
